2020 Purposed Pearls Scholarship Essay Contest
Scholarship Essay Requirements:
This essay contest will be awarded to women attending a North Carolina Historically Black College or University.
When is the deadline and how do I submit my scholarship essay?
All submissions are due by December 31st, 2020 and must be submitted via email to as a Microsoft Word document. Be sure to type your full name, email address, university, and topic at the top of the essay. Please include a professional headshot. By submitting a professional headshot, you give us permission to post on our website and social media pages.
Your entry maybe disqualified if:
If you fail to submit the essay as a Microsoft Word Document
If you fail to add your full name, email address, and university name at the top of the essay
Submitting an entry after the December 31, 2020 due date
What is the word limit?
Minimum number of words is 500 and maximum is 900.
How many winners will be chosen?
Three winners will be chosen as follows:
First place wins a scholarship of $500
Second place wins a scholarship of $250
Third place wins a scholarship of $100
When will the winners be announced?
Winners of the Purposed Pearls Scholarship Essay Contest will be notified via email no later than January 3rd. Once the three winners are notified, we will announce the winners on our website and social media pages.
Scholarship Essay Topic
This year has been undeniably strange. We have watched COVID-19 impact our communities physically, mentally, and financially. We have watched as millennials across the country have marched and participated in the Black Lives Matter movement advocating for the end of racial injustice and police brutality. We have watched as one of the most important elections in history has unfolded. How have these events impacted you? How have you been practicing self-care during these times?
